Eligibility

Any active FBLA member who is an underclassman is eligible to run for the office of President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Reporter/Historian, or Parliamentarian. Please refer to the Wyoming FBLA State Handbook for a complete description of the qualifications and duties surrounding each position. In addition, interested students and their advisers should review the pages in the Wyoming FBLA Handbook pertaining to “Running for a State Office.”

Requirements

All students interested in running for a state office must submit the following forms:

  • Wyoming State Chapter FBLA Officer Candidate Application form
  • FBLA Officers’ Code of Conduct form
  • Adviser to a State Officer Guidelines form.

These forms can be found in the Wyoming FBLA State Handbook or in the State Officer Campaign Handbook. In addition, the candidate will need to submit a recommendation letter from a school administrator, a copy of their transcript and a Wyoming FBLA Web Site Permission form.

The postmark deadline is February 8, 2008.

In the event we do not receive any applications for one or more of the offices, I will contact all officer candidates and offer them the opportunity to campaign for the office that has no candidates and/or extend the deadline for applications for that position.

Other Considerations

Becoming a State FBLA Officer is an outstanding opportunity to develop leadership skills, meet new people, and see new places. However, there are some factors that you need to think about as you make your decision to run for state office. Here are some things for you to consider.

  • Need to purchase two matching outfits w/shoes (blazer provided)
    • $150-$200 Officer’s Expense
  • In-state meal expenses (Officer must pay “up front” and then be reimbursed with appropriate receipts)
    • Breakfast - $5
    • Lunch - $7
    • Dinner - $10 or $22 per diem
  • National meetings
    • Transportation, lodging, and meal expenses covered
  • Business cards and letterhead
    • Provided
  • Formal attire for SLC Closing Awards ceremony
    • $125-$175 Officer’s Expense
  • Transportation w/in the state
    • Must be WHSAA approved-- must be accompanied by adviser or parent.
  • Number of days out of school
    • Approximately 10
  • State Officer Shopping Trip and planning meeting, date in spring to be decided by officer team.
  • Wyoming Executive Leadership Institute (WELI) OR Officer Retreat, late May or early June.
  • Attend National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia June 24-30.
  • Two-day planning meeting in late July in Torrington to plan out the year’s activities.
  • Fall Leadership Conference October 7 in Casper. We will meet in Casper October 5 in order to prepare for FLC and begin planning State Leadership Conference.
  • National Fall Leadership Conference, TBA.
  • Up to four Local Officer Training Workshops, times and locations TBA.
  • State Leadership Conference, 2009, March 19-21, 2009. Arrive March 17.
  • Additional travel to local chapters during the school year may be necessary for Local Officer Installations and general visits.
  • Frequent contact with the State Chairperson and many deadlines to meet, sometimes on short notice.
  • Travel arrangements are the responsibility of the officer and his/her local adviser and/or parents. Wyoming FBLA does not pay mileage to schools or parents for transporting officers to planning meetings or state conferences.
