Fall Conference - General InformationGet Carried Away! (2009-2010)Welcome to another school year and another year of outstanding leadership opportunities brought to you by Wyoming FBLA! The State Officer team had a busy summer preparing for the upcoming school year. In addition to attending NLC, they met on two other occasions and they are excited about the events they have planned for the upcoming year. One of our many accomplishments this summer was to choose the theme for the 2009-2010 school year. It is Wyoming FBLA: Get Carried Away! By now, you should have received a new Chapter Management Handbook. If you have not received this, please contact Lisa Smothers at the National Center (1-800FBLAWIN). She will have one sent to you. The CMH updates contain important information about competitive events updates, topics, etc. Please be sure to go over this information with your members. Fall Leadership ConferenceIt’s time to start making plans for this year’s Fall Leadership Conference (FLC), which will be held on October 13. This year’s conference will be held at the Best Western Ramkota in Casper. A tentative agenda for FLC is included in this mailing. The State Officer team is busy planning another outstanding conference and we hope you’ll encourage all of your members to take advantage of this opportunity. The day will kick off with an opening session keynote address featuring Ron Rabou and Steve Bahmer. Both of these gentlemen are home-grown Wyoming boys. As a former state FFA officer, Ron has conducted our state officer training for several years. He and Steve have joined forces to form Re-Think, LLC and have been delivering keynote addresses and workshops for business and youth organizations. We are excited to have the opportunity to have them attend FLC, where they will offer workshops throughout the day in addition to the keynote address. Members will also have an opportunity to participate in competitive events practice sessions and pick up many new ideas about creating an active chapter while improving their personal leadership skills. As many of you heard at NLC, we have opted to incorporate local officer training (entitled LEADS, for Local Executives Achieving Dynamic Success) into FLC for this year. Local officers will have the opportunity to work with the state officers during the course of the day and will gain many useful tools for guiding your chapter to a successful year. RoomsThe Best Western Ramkota has a small block of rooms reserved for the night of October 12. Rooms are $70 per night and will be held until October 5. Please make your reservations as soon as possible to assure that you will get the rooms of your choice. Be sure to mention this conference when you call. The number at the Best Western Ramkota is 307-266-6000. RegistrationThe registration fee, which includes lunch, will be $22 per person. The registration fee also helps cover the cost of printing, testing supplies, entertainment, and award certificates. We will present certificates to the top four competitors in each event at the closing session. Any new chapter will be offered ½ price registration for FLC. If you know of anyone who is planning to start a new chapter, please forward this information to them with a CC to me. In order to save money on printing and postage, registration will be processed via e-mail or on the FBLA Website at www.wyfbla.org. All registration documents are in Word so that you should be able to download them, add your information, save them and send the necessary paper work back to me. The RECEIPT deadline for registration is October 5. Registration materials should be e-mailed to me on or before October 5. Picture RequestOnce again this year, we are putting together a slide show for the opening session and we need your help. Please e-mail any pictures you have of your chapter to Natalie de Ryk, State Reporter-Historian, at nat_deryk@hotmail.com. Remember, you can’t be included if we don’t have your pictures. Please submit them by October 1. Competitive EventsOnce again, we will be offering members the opportunity to take practice tests at FLC. Due to time limitations, we will offer only objective tests (not performance events). The process used will be similar to previous years and will be as follows: We will be offering several objective tests in a room at any given time and tests will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. For FLC only, students will be allowed to take more than one test in a testing session. It will not be necessary to pre-register for the tests. Please remind all of your members to bring a sharpened No. 2 pencil and a non-graphing calculator with them to testing sessions. Test Proctors/Workshop Monitors NeededIn order to make this conference a success, we will need your help. We will be asking advisers to help out as test proctors, workshop monitors, etc. If you are bringing parents or guests who would be willing to help out with any of the above, please let me know. We would welcome their help. Dress CodeMembers are asked to be in business attire for the conference. Please go over the dress code with your students prior to attending. Conference T-ShirtMembers may purchase a Wyoming FBLA t-shirt for $12 if they wish. Although they won’t be able to wear it at this conference, it will be the same for SLC and may be worn by members participating in Khakis for Kids. A copy of the t-shirt design will be snail-mailed to you soon so that we can avoid any miscommunication as a result of computers not opening attachments. Board MeetingOnce again, we will hold an Executive Board Meeting the night before the conference (October 12) at 7:00 p.m. Board members who will not be in Casper that night are encouraged to participate via conference call. You will be provided with information closer to the conference date. Membership Has Its PrivilegesThis year, we are offering a small gift to members who have paid their dues by October 13. Any members who have paid their state and national dues to you (they don’t necessarily have to be received by the National Center) is eligible for this gift at FLC. When you pick up your registration materials, you will let us know how many paid members you have and receive your gifts to share with your members. Important Reminder about Membership DuesAll membership dues (including Wyoming and National dues) are paid to the National Center. Once the National Center collects your dues, they will forward the state portion to me. PLEASE do not attempt to process your dues through me! Dues must be paid by January 31, 2010 for students wishing to compete at SLC or run for a state office. General InformationPlease mark these dates on your calendar for this year: National
