FBLA State of the Union

Greetings FBLA members! Well, the 2007 FBLA year is off to a good start. I’d like to congratulate everyone for making this year’s fall conference so successful, we had record high numbers in attendance, which is really something to be proud of. The officer team spent a large amount of time preparing for the conference, and it was a feeling of accomplishment to see it all pay off for so many members. Also, congratulations to all of the winners in the testing competitions. It’s good to see members getting competitive, making for a promising state conference. Hopefully, we will have even higher numbers to attend this year’s State Conference in Cheyenne.

Coming up this fall we have our annual LEADS conferences. This year LEADS will be hosted in Buffalo, Rocky Mountain, Wheatland, and Cheyenne. LEADS is still open to all local chapter officers, so be sure to decide which host city is the most convenient travel for you, and get your registration sent in to Kathleen Humphry. For those who have not already attended local officer training in previous years, we will have about a seven hour day full of fun and hands on activities to help officer teams grow and broaden their knowledge of their duties as a local officer team. There will be breaks through out the day. Snacks and lunch will be provided.

Moving on, this month (October) has been declared by your local officer team as state wide Membership Madness Month. As you might have already concluded, we’ve chosen to do this because one of our highest goals this year is to put Wyoming FBLA on the map by boosting its membership to record-high numbers. There are endless numbers of ways to recruit new members, so make October your month to throw a rush party. Advertising in your school paper, or even having your chapter work concessions at a school event are both good ways to get people interested.

Also, coming up in November we have FBLA community service month. Your state officer team has chosen this month as community service month because being involved in your community is one thing FBLA is all about, and there is no time better than the upcoming holiday season to give back to your community. Now is a great time to start planning and preparing a good community service project for November that the whole chapter can be a part of.

Finally, we’d like to give notice that the closest National Fall Leadership Conference will be held in Portland Oregon this November. The state officer team will not be attending this conference due to the distance of the trip, but we still encourage Wyoming chapters that are interested in attending, and have the funding, to register for the conference if it is their wish. Good luck with your chapter activities coming up this fall and winter. The state officer team looks forward to seeing you all again at LEADS and State Conference.

Respectfully,

State Secretary/Treasurer
