President
2007-2008

Dear Wyoming FBLA Members,

School’s start also marks the official kickoff of the 2007-08 FBLA year, and if you’re not excited to be back in class, hopefully you’re eager to step into your roll as a local, state, and national FBLA chapter member.  As the President of our state chapter, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to Wyoming FBLA on behalf of the state officer team.  We have worked hard over the summer to keep Wyoming FBLA’s tradition of excellence alive and create new ideas to improve our rate of success.

On June 13-16 the State Officers met at a cabin in Centennial to build a framework for the upcoming year. Ironically enough, our work resulted in our  2007-08 theme, “Wyoming FBLA, Building Leaders.”  Over the next four days we “measured” ourselves to fit together and build teamwork, “filed” our corners and “sanded” our edges to define our rolls as leaders.  We also “hammered” together a Program of Work (POW).  We would like to encourage local chapters to also build a Program of Work to “nail down” your goals and objectives for the year.  If you are unsure how to do this please check out the State Officer Team POW (program of work) on the Wyoming FBLA website at www.wyfbla.org.  We had a great state officer training and even got to roast a mallow or two in the process.

Next the state officer team, along with 150 other Wyo-FBLA members headed from the windy state to the windy city of Chicago, Illinois for the National Leadership Conference.  Members from around the state competed in events, attended workshops, and heard motivational speaker Eddie Slowikowski.  The deep dish pizza and Wrigley field were all that was promised and Al Capone and the boys were non-existent.  All in all it was a pretty good trip and was enhanced when Buffalo’s Management Decision Making team placed 6th!

The state officer team then met up in August in Torrington to plan FLC (Fall Leadership Conference) and LEADS (Local Executives Achieving Dynamic Success).  I am pleased to announce that Brad Barton will be our guest speaker at FLC.  Barton brings entertainment as he is a magician and also builds leadership when he works his magic as a way to motivate and inspire his audience.  New chapters this year at FLC will only be required to pay one half of the registration fee and it will be a great start to the future of your program.  Following FLC, LEADS will be held at various locations around the state.  See the website for further details.

In the Wyoming POW the state officers dedicated each month to achieving different goals that promote FBLA values.  October is Membership Recruitment month, so local chapters can use September as a time to plan out activities that will increase membership.  If your chapter is unsure what activities to plan, FLC will give you some ideas on how to attract new members.

Once again I am more than happy to have Wyoming FBLA back in action and I am thrilled to getting to know all of you over the next year.  If you have any questions you can email me at cwesteman@wyfbla.org or call me at (307) 331-2333.  I’ll see you and your chapter at FLC!

Sincerely,

Charlie Westerman
